Supervision Agreement

Purpose of Supervision - Individual and Group

a. Monitor and promote welfare of clients seen by Supervisee

b. Promote development of Supervisee's professional identity and competence

c. Fulfill requirements for supervisee's accreditation

Context and content of Professional Supervision

a. Individual professional supervision scheduled as needed or online via video or phone call as agreed. In case of a crisis, an appointment can be made for as soon as possible outside this time.

b. A variety of methods will be used within a multi-faceted framework

Method of Evaluation

Feedback will be provided during or after each session if appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities of Supervisor-Supervisee

a. Professional Supervisor:

  • Encourage ongoing professional education

  • challenge supervisees to validate the approach and techniques used

  • Monitor basic micro-skills and advanced skills, including transference and countertransference.

  • Provide alternative approaches for the Supervisee

  • Intervene where client welfare is at risk

  • Ensure ethical guidelines and professional standards are maintained

  • provide consultation when necessary

  • Discuss administrative procedures and marketing strategies if required

b. Supervisee:

  • uphold ethical guidelines and professional standards

  • discuss client cases with the aid of written case notes

  • validate approaches and techniques used

  • be open to change and alternative methods of practice

  • consult a professional supervisor or designated contact person in cases of emergency

  • implement the supervisor's recommendations in subsequent sessions

  • maintain a commitment to supervision, professional education, and the counselling profession.

Procedural considerations

a. supervisee's written notes and action plans may be reviewed in sessions

b. Issues related to the supervisee's professional development will be discussed

c. It is understood that important and critical issues experienced during the supervisee's work with clients will be raised and addressed in professional supervision. Failure to raise such issues in reasonable timeframe will be considered a breach of this agreement.

Cancellation policy

All cancellations require 24 hours’ notice, or the supervisee will forfeit any payment already made.

Group supervision requires 48 hours’ notice, or the supervisee will forfeit any payment already made. This is due to the impact on other participants.

Contact outside of appointment times

There may be occasions when you need to consult your supervisor outside of appointment times. This can be done by phone if necessary. Phone calls that are within a ten minute time span will not attract any fee for service and will be considered part of the service, within reason. Phone calls that go over ten minutes will be considered a professional supervision session and a fee for service will be charged at the hourly rate pro-rata.

Confidentiality

All personal information gathered by me during the provision of services will remain confidential and secure except when:

  • It is subpoenaed by a court.

  • Information becomes available to me that would place you or another person at immediate risk.

  • Information that gives me a reasonable belief that a child has experienced historical or current sexual abuse and where reporting the abuse is mandated under State law.

  • Your prior approval has been obtained to:

a. Provide a written report to another professional agency e.g. GP or lawyer

b. Discuss the material with another person e.g. a parent or employer

In the event of my death or incapacitation, my administrators will close my business affairs and advise my clients and supervisees without access to confidential information other than contact details.

Group Supervision

Group supervision will offer you opportunity for case consultation and reflection of your practice. All participants have the right to be safe, respected and heard. If you have a concern about the group or of other participants please discuss it privately with your Supervisor.

In group supervision, you agree to keep your clients' identity private and confidential and agree to maintain confidentiality about the case information other supervisees share. Although similiarities in cases may arise, the identity of clients presented in case consultations can never be assumed and are likely to be a coincidence.
